MAKING A DIFFERENCE

The Australia and New Zealand Association of Jakarta's (ANZA) broad aim is to make a positive difference in the lives of Indonesian people by providing much needed assistance to the impoverished and underprivileged.

The harsh realities -

  • 49% of the Indonesian population live below US$2 a day
  • 41.8 million people in Indonesia are classified as poor
  • Indonesia is the fourth most populous country in the world with an estimated 240 million people in 2009

ANZA carries out its work by supporting projects which provide various services to disadvantaged Indonesian people, including education, homes for orphaned children, facilities for the elderly & disabled and medical care programs.

Through its sponsorship programs operations are carried out for children with facial deformities and ANZA works with corporate and individual sponsors to fund primary, secondary and university students.

As the Director of Social Welfare from 2006 to 2009 I saw firsthand the desperate level of poverty in many areas of Indonesia but also the great work achieved by charitable groups such as ANZA.

Retail Empire is proud to support the work of ANZA by supporting the Yayasan Sayap Ibu 'playgroup'. Each week a group of dedicated ANZA volunteers provide orphaned children, aged between 2 and 5 years, with an invaluable opportunity for social, physical and mental stimulation by hosting a play/swimming morning at a volunteer's home.

Profits from Retail Empire will contribute to costs such as food, replacement toys, swimming equipment such as bathers and floatation devices and basics such as nappies and clothing.
